7 Months Old (February 19, 2026)
Another month has flown by and she is 7 months old.
There is no denying it now that she is the bigger than her brother. We always took our progression photos with the large bear, but in this case we really didn’t need him as Phoenix always wanted to be a part of the pictures. Would have been easier just wrangling just one dog but shelties need to be in the middle of everything going on so we managed.
Her coat is coming in but she is in the cowlick phase, especially on her back, where pieces stick up in different directions. She definitely needs a groom especially for the fur around her ears. We always know a groom is needed when the ear fur, which we lovingly nicknamed old man ear, is getting out of control. I put a video in the gallery to try to show her cowlicks.
We have seen no changes with her ears so I think she’ll remain adorable with double up ears.
She decided to give digging a short go but quickly abandoned it after 1/2 inch. She occasionally pokes the shallow hole but hasn’t deepened it.
She is enjoying the small sticks brought down by the storm which we haven’t had another sheltie interested in.
Current favourites are playing tug (sometimes needs reminding what is appropriate for tugging), wrestling with Phoenix and shredding. They also will cuddle pile on one of us when we’re on the couch. Often that ends when one pokes the other and it becomes wrestling on top of us.
She has a mischievous streak and likes to tease us by picking up anything that accidentally made it onto the floor and showing us she got it with that cheeky glint in her eye, but will drop it after that.
She isn’t very interested in having her picture taken so we have to try to be sneaky and get it before she notices which can be tricky since Phoenix loves getting his picture taken and tips her off often before I can get the picture.
She is 25.5 pounds and at least 18 inches at the shoulder.
